arrblshade.gif (1167 bytes) Sync settings for Cakewalk 7.0 990117

Contribution by Phogy

  • In the "audio options" set default sampling rate to whatever rate you sync your card with, 48kHz is perhaps the most common.
  • Then tell which rec/play timing masters that are to be used. Do not enable low-latency mixing, but go to advanced mode and setup Queue buffers to 4 (set it higher if you don't need your realtime changes to take effect that soon), set "Use wave out position for timing".
  • In the DMA-panel set size to whatever virtual device you choose to about 16-128 bytes, I think
the default here is 2048 bytes(?)... Offset 0 buffers.

These settings work out cool enough for me. Set polyphony to the number of audio channels you need. 16 works fine for me (Got an old P133).

Contribution by Gerard Huis in 't Veld

For Cakewalk 8 this is real easy, reached in 4 steps:

  1. Click tools on the menu bar
  2. Click global options in the appeared menu
  3. Click the tab Folders
  4. Enter your preferred directories, or, click on the "..." button to browse to them.

arrblshade.gif (1167 bytes) Problems with Cakewalk 6.0

Information by Adam Kosmin

Just wanted to point out to all the Cakewalk Pro Audio 6.0 users, that 6.01 has been available for awhile now. You can get more info on the free upgrade (to registered users) at the site. (www.cakewalk.com). Don't know if this upgrade will resolve some/all of the problems that have been posted to the mailing list, but I don't think it'll make anything worse.

Contribution by Paul de Leeuw

I'm using Cakewalk pro audio 6.01 and things are working well (codec- and waverecording, playback, sync etc.).

Our comment:

Seems like the free upgrade solves the problem.

arrblshade.gif (1167 bytes) Cannot record in Cakewalk

This is probably an superseded problem, as it relates to the combination of Cakewalk with the 2.04 beta drivers. However, we can't judge if it still applies, so we leave it here: maybe it brings you some idea's...

A 'weird' solution by Purple Snail

  • Create your two tracks for recording, with their sources being Left Wave Record and Right Wave Record, and make sure they have one of the wave drivers set as their output and pan set at 0 and 127.
  • Select the track that has Right wave Record as it source (select as in set the focus on it so that the little red box appears around any of the track paramters)
  • Start Recording (press 'R' or hit the record button)
  • When you want to stop recording DON'T just stop the playback (i.e. don't hit the play button or hit space), you must turn recording off first, and then stop playback.

If I deviate from any of the above steps Cakewalk won't record anything.

arrblshade.gif (1167 bytes) Which Midi Port is associated with which Virtual Midi Device?

Contribution by Purple Snail

If you have say 3 midi devices selected in the midi devices list, and the 3rd one down is the v-midi device, then it will be port 3. If it is the 2nd one down it will be port 2, etc etc.

arrblshade.gif (1167 bytes) Cakewalk Pro Audio 6.0 Sync between midi and audio

Contribution by Paul Heijmann

If you can't get midi and audio in sync, try this:

  • Settings: Audio Options
  • Playback timing master: EWS64XL Wave Play #<n>
  • Advanced :
    • Polyphony 6, Queue Buffers 8,
    • Scrub 100, Freeze frame 20
    • Enable simultaneous playback: disabled (the only way it seems to work)
    • Use Wave Out for positioning : enabled (!!)
    • Clip Audio Mix Upon Overdlow: enabled.
    • DMA : Device : (same as above, EWS64XL Wave Play #<n>)
    • DMA : Size : 8192 bytes
    • DMA : Offset : -1 buffers

arrblshade.gif (1167 bytes) How to switch between banks I made in Ed!son Sample Editor

Contribution by Steffen Duenner

  • Doubleclick on the track you want to edit (in the left / white side of the window. e.g. in the 'patch' field).
  • a window opens (Track Properties).
    • Choose a MIDI out port.
    • Set the 'Bank Select Method' to 'Controller 0'.
    • Set the 'Bank' number to the Bank number you set in Ed!son
(not to the Bank number in the Setmanager. They have nothing to do with each other!).
I.e. you'll have to set it to '0' for the standard GS Bank. And notice: in Ed!son these Numbers range from 1 to 128 in Cakewalk/Cubase from 0 to 127. So if your bank was at '1' in Ed!son you'll have to select '0' in your sequencer!
      Terratec: change this!
    • Set the Patch number to the program number in Ed!son. No conversion needed this time.
      Terratec: don't change this!
    • Press OK.

arrblshade.gif (1167 bytes) Setting up midi-sync in Cakewalk 6.0

Contribution by Michiel ...

Go to Settings, Midi Output, and enable the first option (Transmit Midi start/continue/stop/clock).
Then enter the right Midi Output port. You can find out which number it is by doing the following:

Check your Midi OUT's in the 'Settings, Midi Devices' section. Suppose you have EWS MIDI-1 on top, and EWS MIDI-2 second. Then you'll have to go to the 'Settings, Midi Out' section again, and enter Midi Output Port nr. 2.

(Be sure to go to the 'Settings, Clock' section to enable the 'internal clock')
