| On this page you can ask your
questions about Ed!son and cross your fingers someone answers them. The questions preceded
by question marks are still unanswered. The latest version of Ed!son is 1.21 (final release). Note that problems on this page could be solved by this newer version. |

| How
do I make the sample continue playing after I have released a key on the keyboard
("note off")? 990606Chris Olivers has a question that still
needs to be answered: "In Edison (new beta version), how do I make the sample
continue playing after I have released a key on the keyboard ("note off")? The
EG1, EG2, and EG3 parameter settings all allow you to change the characteristics of the
sound after release, but I can't make it work since the sample automatically stops after
the key release."
Anyone who can help him? |
| Large soundsets make Setmanager crash
990117 When you compile a large soundset in Ed!son, after that, when loading it into the Setmanager, the Setmanager can crash. We asked Terratec support for comment. This is a known bug, sometimes the system crashes, when you try to load a big soundset (as big as the memory on the card). Until now this happens only with 32 or 64MB Simms. I had this problem on my own and after three or four tries it was possible to load the soundset via the setmanager. This happens sporadically, but I hope we fix this problem soon. Till this, the best is to divide the soundset in some pieces and load them one after another into the Setmanager. |
| How can I make an open high-hat cut-off when a closed high-hat is played? 981107 Contribution by Uwe Kindler Ed!son 1.00 doesn't have a drum editor. In Ed!son 1.00 there is no setting you can do
to terminate two sounds that in a traditional drum kit could not physically sound at the
same time, or would not sound natural when played simultaneously. |
| Loop issues 980916 Boerje Sieling experimented a lot with several Ed!son beta versions and gets confused about the looping facility of Ed!son. He has several questions, maybe someone else has answers for him:
For information about Loop Points have a look at Ed!son on the Job. |
| How
to control the Ed!son keyboard via the midi-keyboard If you can't control the 'virtual' Ed!son keyboard from your Midi-keyboard, try this:
Michael Rauscher uses this solution: I had good experiences with following settings: keyboard device: 1 and channel: 12. I don`t know why, but it`s the only setting FOR ME to control Edison correctly and reliable. |
| Windows reports damaged .tmp file
after crash of Ed!son [version 0.40, also still reported with version 0.55] Ed!son 0.55 is considerably more stable than the 0.40 version. But, it still can crash (e.g. when loading one of the native EWS 94b soundsets). Sometimes the computer is completely 'frozen'. After a cold reboot, you get the message that Windows has been shut down in an inproper way, so your harddrive is checked for errors. You may get an error message like: 'File C:\windows\temp\~DFxxx.tmp etc etc' (we don't know the English message here, as we have a Dutch version, so please help us out if you know what we mean). Anyway: let it be repaired, let Windows restart and re-install Ed!son as described under the topic Ed!son is silent after crash. This to prevent that it is:-) |
| Ed!son is silent after
crash [version 0.40] We noticed that too. We found the easiest solution was to just re-install Ed!son by
doubleclicking Edson.exe. It extracts itself again. Make sure all other EWS-applications
are closed while you're doing this. After this there should be sound again. |
| Error uploading
sounds to Ed!son [version 0.38] Contribution by Dirk Jung There is not enough space left in the memory of the EWS. Try to delete all soundbanks loaded with the SetManager and load the bank you want to edit with Ed!son again. Soundbanks seem to need extra memory. I often can't load a 2M bank if I still have 2.5M of memory free. |
| Error while starting Ed!son: unsupported operation [version 0.38] Contribution by Mike Sands. I had the 'Unsupported Operation' problem and after stripping my computer down to the bare essentials - 1 IDE hard drive and CDRom drive, a 1 Meg Trident video card and the EWS, I found that software/driver contention was not the cause of this problem. I had installed a very early version of Windows 95 - before the release of Service pack 1. When I installed a later version of windows 95 (the version number is suffixed with a 'B'), the .ocx controls in Ed!son worked. So, I guess people with this problem can upgrade their version of windows at microsoft.com, purchase a new version, or wait for Terratec to sus out the problem. |
