This
site is mainly dedicated to audio systems of the EWS family. But it's time for
new blood, especially because of rather spectacular developments in the audio
card business: the 3D-audio phenomenon. Computer gaming still is the main area
of application here, but I think that in the near future this technique will
find it's way to other sectors. In fact 3D-audio is the successor of good old
stereo. Unfortunately, also here we have to deal with different standards: EAX
from Creative Labs and A3D from Aureal. Terratec already implemented the A3D
principle in it's famous XLerate Pro (with Aureal's Vortex II chip, A3D version
2.0). In my view this card is a far better 3D product than for example a SoundBlaster
Live (EAX is not really 3D-audio).
And now there is SoundSystem DMX, equipped
with the Canyon 3D chip from ESS. Not
one of the EWS-family, but worth a new section, because it offers the best of
many worlds...
